Catherine Allen
Catherine is a digital producer, currently working at the BBC; producing one of the BBC’s first virtual reality documentaries. She specialises in non-fiction digital products that sit in the intersection between creativity and technology.
Her background is in both documentaries and tech. After graduating, Catherine set up and ran Ember Television, a production company making factual content for broadcasters, arts organisations and technology companies, with commissions from organisations including the BBC Politics Show, The RSC and Siemens. While filming a documentary about the financial downturn, she spent some time in San Francisco and became increasingly interested and involved in the emerging tech scene; especially where there’s an intersection between creativity and technology. On her return to the UK, Catherine discovered the app production company Touchpress, finding the company to be the perfect example of a team who combine both creative and technical rigour.
Catherine then worked at Touchpress for 2.5 years, first as Head of Marketing and then as a Producer. Her highlights at Touchpress included working on Disney Animated, with Disney, which won a BAFTA in 2014 and producing the critically acclaimed kids’ Elmer the Patchwork Elephant craft app. She left to go freelance and specialise in immersive media in 2015, and is now a resident at Bristol’s Pervasive Media Studio.
