Alisa Lebow

Alisa Lebow is a Reader in Film Studies at University of Sussex. A documentary filmmaker/film scholar originally from New York, her research is concerned with questions of “the political” in documentary. She has written articles on the relationship between the camera and the gun, the “unwar” documentary, the political ramifications of first person documentary and more.

Her books include The Cinema of Me (Wallflower, 2012), First Person Jewish (UMN Press, 2008) and  A Companion to Contemporary Documentary co-edited with Alexandra Juhasz (Wiley-Blackwell, 2015). Her most recent research project is an interactive database documentary about filmmaking in Egypt since the revolution: www.filmingrevolution.org (2015).
