Teaching Interac!ve Documentary Making: i-Docs in the classroom and beyond

This proposal suggests a presentation and discussion on how to introduce the concept of interactive documentary filmmaking to undergraduate students studying a heavily practiced based BA, Film and Television Production. The presentation focuses on the delivery of Cross Platform Production and the de-construction of two practice based projects, Transhumence and Sudz from concept to delivery.

The session will examine the introduction of fragmented narratives as part of the storytelling process as well as the artistic approach to constructing an interactive documentary. The presentation investigates how the student can explore documentary storytelling through user engagement, learn how to differentiate between a purely informative website and that of an intuitive, interactive documentary. Overall the discussion revolves around the consideration of: learning outcomes; translational language of i-docs; fragmented narratives, team working and the exploitation of the creative tools of production within the learning environment.
